XT M750 vs LX M570 9 speed shifters

The barrel adjuster for the shifters are plastic with a metal inserts which the cable housing inserts into.
So basically the same!!
Nice that the LX there’s option of the two tone or dark blue/grey as well!
Thanks all for the help and info !! Good decision
And true about the finish - shimano went from nicely engineered and made parts to lower quality - probably the same for most others too

You're welcome. I was looking for corroborating data. I would be interested to see the marketing from 1997 or so in how Shimano pitched the different levels of components as being superior from one another.

Well, they managed to market a lot of other dud 'supposed innovations' at the same time:
Rapid Rise, where the shifting deteriorated within a couple of years as the parallelogram spring weakened,
and Octalink BBs, the first generation of which cranks worked loose, while all failed rapidly due to under-specified teeny bearings to make the fat shaft fit.

Reviewers lapped them up, but then Shimano was buying a lot of advertising space... ;)

I like the subtle change between 1998 to 1999 where the bottom bracket was modified on the splines resulting in compatibility issues between bottom brackets and cranks. Something about a m952 crank will not work well on an m950 bottom bracket because the splines on the bb are not long enough to get the crank arms to properly seat when tightening the crank arm bolts resulting in failure of the splines on the crank arm and a bit of leg injury. Good times.

I've definitely had the BB issue, struggled with an m950 BB on an m952 crank, though having said that I have run that combo so maybe a difference between the m950 splines? M952 worked on the same cranks.

magazines and websites get paid by the companies to promote their stuff - if they criticism properly the money dries up
it’s all fixed

The market corporations decides what customers will go for - they use magazines and websites and sportsmen to promote and use their stuff and big it all up -back in the day it was the other way around
Now stuff is made to have a limited lifespan and to be replaced - and the manufacturer will change it so that the old part becomes obsolete and the customer encouraged and steered into going for the new. Then good stuff from back they label ‘retro’ so to give it a dusty cranky vibe - when in fact it does the exact same thing as the new shit and fkr the most part is better made. (Now stuff as well made costs many times more)
