XT M739 rear mech jockey wheel hitting underside of cassette

Take it off, put all the screws back in their 'factory settings', make a cup of tea, watch a movie (sorry no Charlton Heston films on this weekend - even though the laws of Easter film scheduling dictate that there MUST be a biblical epic/Spartacus/Romans were bad film on terrestial TV). Then rebuild and the magic pixies will have sorted it. Always works for front mechs, see no reason why it shouldn't for rears.

Youre completely wrong

There was a Charlton 'from my cold dead hands' Heston film on on Friday

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Missed it. As Father Jack would say "****!"

But was it a sandals and swords epic of Biblical proportions? And if it wasn't on 1,2, ITV, 4 or 5 it doesn't count actually. Obscure regional variants don't count either btw.

(Some proper 'Biblical films that have to be shown at Easter' TM on Monday though  )

Back On Topic please:

Added 2 links - made it worse, much worse.

Reset everything.

Removed 2 links - improved things. It still rubs the bottom of the largest cassette cogs but only in granny + 1st and 2nd. Tried adjusting the b tension scew but still works best with it fully screwed in. The mech pivot is not sticking and swings through its arc nicely.

Back to biblical epics if you wish, there was a very good one on earlier today; King of Kings, fantastic soundtrack.

It was a biblical film funnily enough, and called 'the bible' too i believe.
Watched bits of it,but its not my kind of thing :?

Fitted an 11-28 cassette, took 2 more links out of the chain and BINGO! Works great.

The 'b' screw is still screwed right in but everything indexes nicely.

The position of the tab on the derailleur hanger that the B-tension spigoty bit rests on seems to vary a bit from frame to frame - if it's a bit far round then the extremes of the mech capacity won't be happy.

The often misunderstood B tension does not move the jockey wheel closer/further from the cassette.

Um. Not directly, but that's the pracitcal effect that adjusting it has.
