if your opponent is a craven incrementalist and you bid with three seconds to go, you can win even though he would have been willing to bid more than you had you given him time to do so.

What we don't seem to have seen a lot of yet on UK eBay is sniping. Let alone the more highly-developed form of warfare, sniper vs sniper.

I don't use snipers - much prefer the sport of a well-timed bid. That and craven incrementalism! :P

most of us on here use snipes .
Doesn't sound as though Andy does!

Is this a sign of sniping do you think?

I don't understand how to read eBay history - it lists the winning bid twice, once from last night and once with 2 seconds to go, which is either very good work, or a snipe, or just the way eBay logs its own calculations.

even if you use a snipe but price is already above your snipe , it wont work .

yep thats what happens. I was 2, but had to go out etc, really idn't expect much interest and then couldn't believe how much someone else had bid so early!
End of the day, doesn't matter when you bid. He who pays most wins.
No I disagree (for once!) - if your opponent is a craven incrementalist and you bid with three seconds to go, you can win even though he would have been willing to bid more than you had you given him time to do so.

How can you disagree??
The guy who pays most wins. FACT. Not the guy who would have paid most if he saw another bid.

I use snipers, hang by the bid button and just bid incrementally. Just depends what I feel like etc.
For a £10-15 mech, really wasnt worth setting up a snipe.

No, you said two things - that it doesn't matter when you bid and that he who pays most wins. The latter is just a truism, it was the former I disagreed with - if you bid with 15 sec to go against an incrementalist, you'll probably lose. If you bid with 3 sec to go against an incrementalist you'll probably win.

However a sniper is not an incrementalist, so obviously that principle doesn't apply to them and you'll beat a sniper only by outbidding it.

But snipers don't bother me anyway, because I only bid once and if anything it's better to be a human - if the sniper and I both have the same limit and I bid with 5 sec to go, the sniper's bid with 3 sec to go will be rejected and I'll win. Another example of how it does matter when you bid.

Well last night I got a "new condition" M900 FD 34.9 BP for around £16 posted on ebay...making this XT one seem very strange indeed!?!

Its destined for the pace (via a shim)
