X Small MTB for touring conversion

Hi there,

I'm helping a friend build a touring bike for a trip which will include some semi-off road tracks in the caucusus mountains in Georgia. She is 5ft 1 so hoping for something quite small. I have some parts so could start with a bare frame, but am also interested in a full bike. Budget for whole bike is approx 300 or 75ish for a half decent old frame. Steel frame essential and ideally modern enough to require 1 1/8th headset setup. Thanks in advance

I have a 15" Diamond Back Apex frameset. 1990 era & somewhat tatty, but perfect for touring. Has rack mounts on forks, is 1 1/8" steerer.

Re:

I've got a diamondback ascent ex with deore lx 8 speed shifters, brakes, mechs, a specialized square taper chainset (used it for the build cos it's 4 bolt) and mavic xm117 wheels that have loads of life left in em, might be ok for touring or for someone small I also have some Alex runs dm 20 again might be good for touring. It's sat doing nothing so I'd take an offer on it. 15.5 inch frame

Hi there, how strange that you have both got similar offerings...

My main concern with both would be size (especially for a tourer). The friend in question is really quite small (5ft1 (at a push)) with fairly short legs and both bikes look a little long. Can you shed any more light on the size, is there a geometry chart somewhere hidden on the web?

Also, do you know whether both frames will accept V brakes?

Thanks in advance...

Re:

I'm 5' 5" and there's a fair bit of seatpost out. Also the stem is 120mm with quite a bit of rise, this quite an aggressive mtb for me, it's quite similar geometry to my road bikes, with reach and bar drop, maybe this could be countered with a lower saddle and shorter stem. I thought v and canti brakes were interchangeable?

i'm selling this 16" gt bravado frame set (1 1/8" ahead). triple triangle, stiff and light. please notice the bravado was the top of the list steel frame these days. only she'd need a salsa rack lock for rack mount.

Re:

Got this if it is of any interest let me know.
