To stop your chain from resting on the chainstay when the rear wheel is removed. Normally when travelling and probably more for roadbikes or fussy mtb owners.

I suppose it would help prevent getting oil on the back seats as the chain sags and at 3.99 would have saved me a whole lot of agro from the missus.

I sold 1 a while back. just use an old axle with QR to keep it in place.
