It's about time I got one of these, been working on bikes for long enough at ground level now.

Christmas is coming up too! Looking for X-Mas present ideas

Looking for one to clamp the seatpost, as mine are all round.

So can anyone recommend one, not costing the Earth, or evn have one they don't need/use anymore ( bit weird, but you never know )!

Thanks,

Mike

Re:

I dropped on a mid range Park Tools one. They are beautifully made, easy to set up and take down fast, very stable, portable and have lots of useful accessories you can attach. Well worth the coin imo. :D

Re:

I got a cheap eBay one, a bit like the one in the link above, for about that price 3 years ago. Have to say that one looks more sturdy and stable (mine has tripod legs and can occasionally tip!), but overall I really can't complain for that money.

I did have a proper Park one when I had a shop, my Dad has it now and wouldn't give it back!
In fairness it's better, but not so much better it was worth paying all the extra for (think it was a £200 stand)

I think anything, however cheap, will be better than no workstand at all and struggling with the bike upside down, I know mine just made an incredible difference to how I felt about working on my bikes.

A couple of years ago i decided to treat myself to a workstand. I looked for a while for the sturdiest stand i could find. I ended up buying one off ebay for around £50. there were cheaper ones but i wanted something solid and light, a lot of the cheaper ones are steel and i should imagine weigh a bit. I was drawn to the park name, as everyone is, but found a more substantial looking stand for a fraction of a park and have no regrets. The only thing i would consider looking back is mine has only two legs and can sometimes, with a full bike, topple backwards. not that much of a problem now i know about it  :)
Just had a look for a makers mark but there is none so cant remember what make it is, its thick anodised aluminuim and like most the head swivels so you can use it on both tt and seatpost :)

Re:

Prices of these two have come down and you can prolly get them much cheaper. The OP has rare Ritcheys and Scotts. I would never risk an unstable stand ( particularly with young kids around) made of cheap materials or dubious design and potentially denting or damaging a rare retro ride. Nothing beats a pro bike shop quality stand and i have seen used cheap on ebay, if you are patient. The parks are so well engineered you can be sure they will last for many years, plus they dis/assemble in seconds.
