WTD: Single ring chainset

Tentative one this...

I'm after an ultra cheap single ring set up for a bike I'm building for my nine year old lad. He's always struggled with the concept of changing gear, so to add a triple ring at the front probably wouldn't help, although I do have one to go on.

Needs to be square taper and cheap as chips

If your Triple chainset has detatchable rings, you might be better off just buying some of these http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/single-chain ... 5-prod254/ and stripping the outer and inner chainrings off

Can you not run single ring on the 3 ring crank?

If you worried about chain coming off you could put a bash either side of the chainring to make a chainring sandwich.
You may need to have a little play around with chainring bolt configuration. Dead Rats knows about this

Thanks for the ideas guys... the triple I have is just a cheap SR Suntour jobbie with non removable rings... although they might be removable with the aid of a drill

I guess thats true if you can get them off the arms :? Never thought of that.

I have one possibly two cranksets for sale but both 3 ring.

If you do that the hole diametre is normally too small for the bolts
