I'm rebuilding an early '80s Raleigh built frame with a cotterless BB and chainset fitted. The BB shell and cups are both 26TPI, and are in good order but the BB axle itself is quite pitted. Reading this:

... I realise I cannot use any of the old BB axles I have as they are all too narrow in terms of the positioning of the cones (and quite possibly the overall axle length). I also cannot completely replace the BB - as I'd like to - as mine all have 24TPi cups.

So I need a BB axle with 5 or 7 stamped on it (mine are all 3), can anyone help? An old 73mm MTB one would do or a genuine replacement '5S' would be ideal.
Would prefer an axle with external threads so I can re-use my original cranks nuts, but one with internal threads would be fine (it would just mean using bolts instead of nuts!)

Cheers,
Al
