Just curious, is it any better or worse if you can't see the bargaining going on because it's done via PM as opposed to here all out in the open? No judgments, just wondering.

No difference really.
It's just that the rules state there should be a firm price, and by stating publicly what offers have been received, the seller is effectively turning the sale into an auction.
