Would you buy XTR bottom bracket?

Isn't XTR supposed to be a big step up from XT ??

If we're only talking internal bb's, is it worth getting 'fancy' over bulletproof?

my experience with upgrading from XT to XTR is that the XTR kit doesnt work any better, it's just quite a lot lighter

What about between, say, LX to XT??

i havent done that step personally. LX kit works well though when i have used it.

for square tapers at least, the XT bb is quite a lot lighter than the LX too

i've used LX for most of my cycling life and have found it to be almost bomb proof, not the lightest of groupsets but then i'm not a weight weenie.

for value for money you really can't/couldn't go wrong with LX.

Indeed. . . STX is supposed to be pretty good too..

But what about when you want something just that little bit nicer. . .

There's a certain 'something' about XTR isn't there?
Especially if you like to have a largely matching groupset. . .

don't get me wrong i'd love to own a full XTR groupset of any age, but funds never stretch that far, i currently run XT 75X mechs on my FSR and to be honest there is no real performance gain over the LX i've been using for years.

i now have a pretty much complete XTR group on my kilauea. it's only because i'm a) a tart and b) a weight weenie. the XT i had before worked just as well

At 200lb it'#s pointless me being a weight-weeny... given the option, I have a tendency to certainly tart-ish characteristics. . .

Is XTR cabling 'better' than nokon?? or is there an overall winner in the cable wars??

Just had some Jagwire orange cables delivered for the Wifes Voodoo and she's decided she prefers the woven titanium looking stuff I got as an interim. . .
That's quite nice (the Jagwire)..

I take it we are talking about UN54 vs un72/3 here ?
Not sure you can still buy the UN72/3 bb's any more. Not in 73/110 anyway.

Front mech wise my M961 weighs more than the M738 that it replaced. So XTR does not always weigh less than XT. And the M569(?) front mech on my karakoram weighs exactly the same as the M738 version.

So potentially Lx weighs less than XTR .Ok so it doesn't look as nice, but when it's covered in mud..........
