Would love some technical help please

Hi, I took a Stronglight triple apart to clean and now can't find where I safely put the bolts. I remember they had spacers between the two parts (wish I had photographed before dismantling).

I've seen these online but they don't look long enough, compared to a double set I've seen for sale, they look the same length. Is it worth asking if the photo is accurate or would a generic set be OK?

I can see how the large and middle ring fit nicely when putting back together (space between the two) so I presume I just put a spacer before the granny ring?

Thanks for reading!

there are multiple models of Stronglight triple chainset

readers might be able to give better pointed help if they knew what model it is you have

if you do not know the model name for your set that is fine, an image will suffice

for example, there are older models which employ a hex head chainwheel bolt rather than the allen type

Hope this helps.

I found the bolts eventually and there are five with one much longer than the other four.

Could anyone help me put it back together please? My Zinn and the Art of Road Bike Maintenance doesn't go into enough detail. 🙄

It's usually:
Outer ring
Crank arm tab
Middle ring
Spacer
Inner ring

All bolts would be the same length - triple not double.

I suspect you have one correct one - there aren't many chainring bolts in existence longer than a stronglight triple.
So you've probably got 4 doubles, stretched out to hold it together.

Google those terms, you should see what's what.

Thank you! That makes sense. So not original bolts. It's an Orbit Gold Medal and from what I can tell they were triples so wonder why the short bolts?

Perhaps they took the chainrings off to clean them and lost the originals 😉.

As it is, late last night I found a set of triple bolts, new old stock, in an original plastic box, on eBay so they should be perfect. I'll wait for them to arrive - I can see how it goes on now, the long bolt threw me.
