worn Thread on a Pace CROWN!!!!!

Helicoils is one option: you drill out the old thread to a specified size and then fit a "Helicoil" insert. It threads into the bigger hole and provides an internal thread you can then use with the steerer pich bolt.

It does require some "flesh" in the crown to allow for the bigger hole

Another option is a whole new crown; Justbackdated should be able to supply one. Worth noting this is the most expensive option!

Get a recessed nut like the ones used on road brakes, then drill the hole in the crown to fit. Now thread the crown bolt back through and into the recessed nut

thanks for the advice fella,
any idea of the cost!! or shall I say the damage's to my pocket

As above - helicoil, re-thread next size up
Or the easiest way is to drill all the way through, use a longer bolt and put a nut on the end!
Won't be very neat though!

Basically you drill a larger hole, tap new threads, screw a Helicoil into the new hole, then screw the bolt into the Helicoil. The insert is sized and shaped such that it digs into the aluminum and will stay in place when screwing in a bolt (or latter removing it).

PM me tomorrow and maybe you can send it to me and i'll do it for you at work!, can't promise anything though as the aircraft i work on are all imperial, unless you want an imperial bolt in it . . . . All i'll probably do is drill it to an appropriate size and re-tap it, ill just have to find a nice looking TI bolt!

Cost = what ever it costs you for postage
