Working with pedals

Got a pair of these.. seem nice and light, in nice mechanical condition..

Wrong colour though..

Ideally I'd like them black (just the 'cage' part).. is there a paint that won't look gash after a few miles on pedals?

Failing that, to get the ano off, should I just persevere with the wet'n'dry?
Or would Scotch Pads be better? Or something else??

Can't help with the finish but I knew they looked familiar.

They're Classic branded and cost about £19.99 when I bought them. Cracking set of pedals.

Mine are also the wrong colour...

To get the ano of a caustic dip is best. Have a search there are a few good picture threads. As for recoating I have no experience in trying it, but powder coat would work well or even try plasticoat . Realise the powder coat bit is probably not money wise but if your cheeky enough pop in and ask them if there doing anything black and could they maybe do those for a couple of beertokens.

They are smashing pedals, keep looking for more with no luck..

Bit worried about using caustic (or Monsewer Muscle) because I read to be careful how long it's left on..
I'll be putting in excess of 200lb on these, the prospect of them partially eaten away scares me a tad ;)

Will take a peek locally for plastic coaters.. if it's a tough finish I don't mind coughing up a tenner.. it'd cost me nearly that in paint

:

Mix a weak caustic soda solution, dip the component and keep scrubbing it with an old toothbrush until the colour from the anodising has gone.
This'll only take a matter of a few minutes (if that).

You're only removing the anodising which is next to bugger all compared to the total thickness - it's not worth worrying about

Remove and rinse well in water - job done.

Hammerite paint would be robust.

I repainted a set of Mag21's with it and the paint is seriously robust.

I even used to paint my banger racing cars with it

We've used it for engine blocks before now..

If it's a fair prospect, I'll give it a go - will save me getting the ano off
