any way of telling if somebody's nicking me wifi?

Both comps connected via RJ45 so no wifi used off the SKY router - interweb suspiciously slooow lately

turn it off and see if any of the neighbors wander into the garden looking for something to do

turn on MAC Address filtering, add all your MAC addresses, hide your SSID, use WPA2 with AES, pick a nice big key......nobody will be using it now apart from Family Big Cheese

Wifi is a pain in the ar$e ,open to everyone as it has a range of about 30m

Ok if you use a laptop but for a home computer set up its completely pointless

go to your networks settings and turn off public file sharing, ect and see if anyone is connected...it should say whos connected to the internet that way.ps hes right ..change ya security key to summet offensively large and complex....

the sky router is wifi - both comps are hard wired, we dont use the wifi bit.

its the router that is used to access the web not the pc.the pc sets the way and amount of stuff that is available and doesnt matter if its hard wired or not .i have so many routers down my street that dont use security settings giving me access to their stuff its jaw dropping stuff i can tell ya.

Your router will most likely have a page thet tells you what is connected to it.
If you are not using the wifi and you haven't disabled it, you could remove the aerial...

It's best to disable the wifi if you're not using it. If you haven't changed the settings from factory then anyone could access it (all sky router/modems have the same key, etc.).

If you go to the modem's configuration page (I had to type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar in the web browser - yours may be different) and go to the wireless section and disable the option that says "Wireless Access Point" or something similar. That should stop anyone accessing your broadband.

The problem with wifi in my area is that there's so many people using it that I get a lot of interference. When I click connect to network I get nearly 20 different options! I've since gone back to ethernet as it's more secure, more reliable and a lot faster (when you run Gigabit anyway).
