Wide fitting size 43/44 SPD shoes - Specialized/Northwave?

I've been through this before, & really struggled to find shoes that are comfy on my wide feet - Specialized ones seem ok in the shop, but I'm unwilling to fork out for brand new ones only to find I don't really get on with them!

Recommendations so far seem to be that Northwave & Specialized are the most likely to suit me, but any other input'd be much appreciated...

I reckon I have wide'ish kinda hobbity like hooves and specialized have been a revelation to me. Have road shoes(pro's) and mtb shoes(comps) and will get another pair soon.

ps I prefer the comps to the pros , the ratchet strap things more trouble than its worth. Not too bad but the velcros better/easier.

Old retro shimano/ nike and axo I have are all great, and all velco-shot-to-bits,
new shimano too narrow, new nike excritiatingly narrow, and new axo, where the heck do i find those where I can try em on. . ?
