Right here goes ..robs helped you out with the pics and this might help

as rob pointed out it's in the wrong section it should be in the 98---->

here is the members sale in the 98 section link

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=39

if your unsure of the price (charging almost new price by disguising it with a dollar cost doesn't work) then 98 section what is my bike worth

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... &start=240

you need to look at ebay as 4's are not as rare as you think..and trying to find the same bike sold in the past should help as well as what is my xyz worth

lastly..on the bottom of the main page you will see members active. In green will be the mods

pm one of them and they will be able to move this thread to the 98 and might help your sale ...good luck

Thanks for the help i clearly need it
The price in dollars was not a new price it was a second hand price these bikes where a great deal more new.
I did a check on ebay and one sold for £900 on the 3rd of this month and one has sold for over £1000 and some for less so i plucked for somewhere in the middle and i believe it to be a fair price for the bike.
They may not be incredibly rare but for a bike that really isnt that old there are very few around
I will try to contact a mod to have the thread moved
Cheers

Prst-1

I was lucky enough to be asked to test ride one of these in 1997 (pre sale launch) for a week or two, so could be earlier than 2004. Marin UK asked me, who were seeing to the distribution, then I had to submit a report and interview. It was surprisingly light, but had a nasty habit of diving over undulations and tipping me off over the bars. Other than that, they were a really fast comfy ride.

wow, amazing to hear from someone that actually test rode one of these.
The bike is very light considering it looks like a transformer and should weigh a absolute ton.
It supposedly came out the factory at 27 lbs ab about 12.5 kg
could shave a bit off mine with the carbon post and bars but its still fairly weighty compared to modern bikes.
I was led to believe this one was a 2004 model as it has the full xt groupset that was only on the very last bikes as standard.
I haven't really tested the bike for what it was built for, but when it does hit the rough stuff its a very floaty experience with no feed back through the pedals which i found quite hard to get used to

When you get a chance have a look at the XT components to see what series they are M7?? thats providing their still the original ones.

I did try to find out the year of the components with little success
From the shimano website they appear to be 2003-2005?? not certain on that though.
Any clues to look out for to date them?
the crank arm is from the hollow tech range if that helps any
