Why single speed?

Ta..

In my defence (for being lazy and not using the search), it was rather late and I was about a minute from passing out (tiredness, not alcohol) . . .

M'lud

You can get this filthy and not worry about slipping gears and trashing mechs.

They just keep going........

I'm looking at my '94 Marin and thinking of keeping it pretty much as is and looking for an old Kona frame to SS (having read a couple of threads linked in post #2 ;) )

Low maintenance is gooooood, I'm not historically big on fiddling about. . . with bikes.

+1 for ease of maintenance.

- Also looks nice and clean - less cables, levers, etc.
- Lots lighter. You probably save 2-3 pounds without mechs, shifters, cables and a shorter chain.
- Fitness! You will definitely feel the benefits after a few weeks riding a single speed. When I ride my geared bike now I ride more smoothly, with less gear changes, and a lot faster - especially up hills!

Then............get a fixie and really feel the benefits!

I am tempted with a s/s bike, as the minimalistic approach kinda appeals to me. Having said that, I'm a lazy bast@rd on hills. 8)

You soon won't be lazy, when the choice is ride or walk
