why is Kona so popular here?

That's the main thing for sure...bikes! And we all do love 'em. None of my friends ride Kona, but we all have a healthy respect for nice bikes in general. I also like old Bontrager frames, dekerf, some specialized...their late 90's FSR was genius, brodie, cove, intense, turner and on and on. Not all are hardtails of course, but I will always like steel and ti hardtails the best. Show me a pic of the m2 so I can see which one it is...

this for konapaul, this is as it is now, only recently got it back from the guy i sold it to 12 years ago, i'm gonna restore it to how it was when i owned it, mostly m900 xtr etc.

I originally bought a new lava dome in '94 after a lot of research.

At the time I was thinking either marin bear valley se or kona fire mountain. Eventually plumped for kona based on their racing results at the time (not that I've ever raced) and I vaguely remember two blokes cycling around the world on konas and singing their praises.

Fortunately when I got to the bike shop, they had a lava dome in the window, and after cleaning the glass with my tongue I never looked back. Well until some sh*t nicked it. Being on this forum brings back some happy memories.
and if anyone has a '94 lava dome (19") that they want to part with .....

Very nice, and also black like mine. :D Be sure to post pics when it's lovingly restored to its original glory.

Not custom, but bought with that bike in mind

Helmet is a Bell Delirium and the seat is a Fizik Nisene that came from a new Cannondale

i wonder the same thing as to thier popularity and i even own one--a bike i didnt really seek, just sort of lucked into buying---it may be that kona comes to mind as making the consummate steel hardtail---whether it was the lava dome or the hei hei and everything in the middle, you got a good quality, good looking, plenty of size options, steel mountain bike---wasnt it in 93 that they ONLY made steel bikes?----all companies made good bikes, alot i wouldnt mind owning when i see them on this site, i just happen to own a kona, i guess
