Why did you buy THAT bike????

Buying a bike for status is the worst of the ones mentioned, only because the air of high status is fleeting. For me, at least, it's the least satisfying of those reasons.

I have a few bikes now that I REALLY wanted when I was younger

And a couple of bikes that are starting to creep into the 'elite' bracket and some nice old parts being purchased too, however, these very quickly feel at home and the mystique is shattered then they are ridden hard, like was intended

They are properly cared for but properly used so don't feel status-sy just good, old machines

...But it is nice when a stranger coos over your machinery...

i buy bikes as and when i need them...may seem silly but i have no place to store a lot of bikes, i need a roadbike to commute? i buy one...i get sacked then it gets sold.

How do i pick what bike to buy...i pick based on colour. on that note i saw a bike i want to buy today at cash convertors but it is seriously rough, if its cheap enough i'll give it a dabble.

haha, definitely nice to get a little nod..like street cred
but when you find yourself biking to different, far away bike shops just to get a reaction, then, perhaps, there's an issue.
