Why are my tyres lumpy out of true

Rather a funny thread, and unusual in that Mr History finds the answer to his query and posts it for himself.

It could be that the beads of the tyres are snagging on the alloy of the rims.

I have never had to do it on road bike tyres, but a little soapy water on the bead can help, either that or provided the beads are definitely well seated into the rim, just use a track pump to push in 100 psi plus, although, that maybe what someone was trying at HONC on Sunday when they blew their tube / tyre / bike up. :shock:
