...who was asking aboyt taking a cassette body apart a few weeks ago? I want to try and rescue one before I try to get a new one. The thing is off the hub. Can I take it to bits any further?

Depends on the cassette.
At the rear....are there 4 small nuts/screws? These hold the cassette rings and spacers together.
If you can...undo and remove.

Aye, done that. This is the actual freehub. The bit that (is supposed to) click.

You can strip them right down, but no-one ever recommends it as it is a damn fiddly job. The lock ring is LH thread, and squillions of tiny ball bearings will come spilling out, but its do-able if you have the patience. A smear of gease to hold all the balls in place on re-assembly, but mind the pawls only get a drop of oil and not grease, or they'll stick, and you'll have a free-wheel in both directions! I do recall a post where someone described a method of flushing out the freewheel assy somehow without the need for taking it apart? This sounds like it could be a good plan B?
