Who wants to date these twins?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, who wants to date the twins? They are not identical, one is blue eyed and the other grey but they are built the same. I am assuming they were born in 1983.

When I was 17 years old a friend of mine for his 16th birthday got a bike that his parents were told by the sales person was a “mountain bicycle”. Living in the country north of Atlanta, Ga I had never seen one in person till that day. I was more into BMX and my Honda CR80. But when his parents wheeled it out I can remember all of us at the party saying “wow”, “cool”, and “can I ride it?” The next day I begged my parents to drive me to the bike shop where my friend’s parents bought it just so I could drool for a while. I had to wait another 4 years before I had my first “real” mountain bike.

For about the past 5 years I have been looking for that bike that my friend got many years ago. I wanted something as close to original as I could find and something that was not too beat up. The search for that bike ended about a month ago. Not only did I find the bike in the color I wanted, size and condition but the fellow I bought it from had 2! One was his wife’s, she must be tall, and one was his. He bought them new at the same time and had used them for city riding.

Now, the story could end there but it can’t. They day I got back into town after picking the bikes up I met up with a friend of mine for some beers. He was getting married the coming weekend and I wanted to by him some tasty brews as a congrats. He is the manager of my local outdoor/bike store and we started talking bikes and he asked if I had seen the early 80’s stumpy that was on craigslist. The stumpy he was talking about was mint. It was the right year and color but the guy was asking $900 for it! My friend told me how he had been looking for one for a while as well. I smiled and said “when you’re done with your beer I have something for you”.

We walked outside to my truck and I proceeded to open the back to show him the “twins”. I told him that I was keeping the blue eyed one but he could have the other. He totally dug it. He was getting married in Bend, Or and swore that he would take it down with him and rip up Phil’s on it wearing cut off jeans, a flannel shirt and some Chuck Taylors.

It’s nice when 2 people get to be happy for the price of 1.
