Who remembers recycle cycles in Anerley?

Yup, it was Vince. He was well known on the South London cycling scene.

After Recycle closed I think he opened up Behind Bars in Sydenham (now closed) and has since, I believe, moved to Brighton. A friend of mine who owns a bike shop on the Isle of Wight and imports Spooky frames into the UK told me that Vince was involved in their distribution as well.

He used to have some lovely kit in that shop. That parade has now been demolished and new flats built on the site. I cycle past it almost every time I head out to the trails of Kent, always with a slight tinge of regret.

Thanks for all the info guys....I have to admit I was a little shocked when I went back after a few years of being away from London (Moved to Luton :? ) and saw it had gone. I always wondered what happened to it as I can't remember a time when it was not full of over excited cyclists. As far as I was concerned it was the best bike shop in London all the staff were friendly and helpful and would not let you make a mistake and lose out money wise. I got my Super V100FR from the Fridge and still have it to this day, it has the Recycle cycles sticker with the shop phone number on it too. I have very fond memories of those days and the feeling I used to get when I walked into that shop clutching my pay packet in hand. But still to this day for the life of me I can't work out why it went? :? I think a shop like that now especially with the part ex factor with us lot around is bound to make a killing rather than fleabay?

Yep ..was the top blke shop in South London. Two Vinces one the main owner and Dan. Good friends to this day. The other Vince opened another shop near Sydenham called Behind Bars after recycle shut down but never got far sadly I've still got a Rocket frame Recycle designed and got made. ..Still miss the shop and the days..was the place to go..

I remember both. I bought a single speeded steel frame from Vince at Recycle. I've still got the Hope SS hub I bought at the same time.
One of the staff members there was a guy called Alex and he had previously been a Saturday boy at On Your Bike at London Bridge when I was a staffer there in the mid-90s.
TBH Behind the Bars wasn't a great shop. When it opened it was my local, as in a five-minute walk from home. I tried to give 'em some trade but they weren't interested in ordering me a set of Mavic road rims and so after that, I took my business elsewhere.
