My kid goes to a superb state school. Like I said it's always split along party lines. I'm a strong believer in Unions, my Irish Grandfather was heavily involved in promoting them in the 20s. I just don't like them abusing their power, which they have a tendency to do these days.

As for Andrea mentioning the T word and using Farage as a front man against the EU. She's committed political suicide right there :facepalm: The media will tear her to pieces.

Gove made a mess of education - he made no improvements and postured to meet his own ends. The system is in more of a mess now than it has ever been, and despite the noises that standards will be/are being raised, this years 'national average standard' will be lower than previous years.

Gove's system was to destabilise the profession to allow for systematic privatisation, and he didn't even manage to get that right. Still, at least he is in the running for the top job- that's what he wanted after all.

Amen to that. Let's all learn to be British via our 'History'. Well the bits Gove approved of anyway. Don't get me started on this one. Oh. You have. Going for a lie down.

There' a strange misconception that seems to follow politicians like Gove around (ie the 'hard line' type that demand to be heard) that he was unpopular due to being some kind of cage-rattling maverick on a crusade of sustainable improvement. My reality, one I know is shared by many others, is that he was shit at his job. Don't take my word for it though- read up, ask around...

Fact is we are far too low in the World academic league table. Not saying we need to be automatons like the S Koreans or Japanese but it IS important that things improve. Back in my day we were forced to do Ox and Camb board exams and yoof would eat those papers today. It's all watered down so they all get As. It's a frikin joke !
