I would say it’s a Claud Butler Vantage CBX. I bought mine 17 years ago from an old dedicated Roadie via my LBS – he had traded it in back then for a Purple Kirk Revolution!

I think it rides really well, and is surprisingly lightweight for what it is. I’m not sure about the butting of the tubes, but I’ve just picked it up, and the back end seems really light.

It used to be my main ride, but now I just use it to potter around to the shops and commute on.

yeah, that sounds right. mine has the same long reach zoom quill stem as the pipemeisters, but its in a box in the cellar at the moment.

i've always really liked this bike and rode it for many years, but its just too tiny for me.

gonna keep it for the little fella who will be graduating from a 24" wheel soon enough.

The previous owner of mine has hands like shovels and had virtually stripped the frame's Aluminium thread for the Rear Mech.
Those nice people at Claud Butler in Brigg (near longun) sent me some instructions with a hanger, a 3.5mm drill, a 4mm tap, some M4 C/S stainless fixings and some touch-up paint - which was sweet of them.

You can just about make it out in my picture here.

thats interesting about the rear mech because mine had a nasty incident where the mech went into the rear spokes and got ripped off.

the thread was absolutely buggered.

a mate of mine did a bit of tig weld filling on it for me and a local frame builder tapped it out for me again.

happy days.... its been sound ever since.

Good to hear that it is possible to tig weld and re-tap the thread. I'm sure that many people have been stumped when they were presented with the same problem.

The tricky bit with my repair was picking up a hacksaw and deciding where to start cutting! After that it was fairly straight forward.

I took this picture this morning.
