Which one shall I hack? Retro MTB Selection

Any would build in to a decent retro hack imo. At a guess I'd say the e-stay and the last one would be of most interest to the retro gang.

hack the giant or the raliegh
the rest are too nice to "hack"

Holy sh*t. Good haul.

nice haul .

Thanks lads, I'll show the Missus these messages, hopefully it'll change the way she views them! haha

That's a fantastic haul!.......I take it you emptied someones shed?.....the red e stay looks the most carachterful and worthy of building.....this hobby drives my better half scatty, I have 15 bikes in total and no garage as my house is 150 years old, so we live amongst them.......I regularly point out there could be worse things to spend my time riding/rubbing/polishing/lubing........

Like I say, the Giant really is the obvious candidate for pub-bike style hack, with the black/orange/white Raleigh in second place if you've already passed the Giant on. All the others have definite value, which I'm not going to attempt to assess (mainly 'cos I'm rubbish at it, but also a bit 'cos the How Much Is My XXX Worth? thread is there for that ;) ).

Curious as to what the red lugged one is. And having naughty thoughts about the CR7.

Giant all teh way for a hack, though it depends on how much of a bike snob you are, I personally wouldn't stoop so low. Call me strange, but I like the Raleigh, classic 531 Raleigh from the days when Raleigh were good. I've never been a fan of Crack 'n' fail so if it were me, I'd turn this into a hack, as that way I'd at least be forcing myself to ride one, working out whether my prejudice against them is justified.

The early fisher suspension looks nice, though probably more of a 'soft tail' than a full susser, but either way, an interesting looking frame.

The rest are good retrobike fodder that will fit in well here.

Great haul, I wish I could find stuff like this.

Woah, Don't hack the Raleigh Thunder Road! It's quite rare and from back when Raleigh were good. I would quite happily take this off your hands.

I've been after a non-gate sized one for a while.

Carl.

Haha! I am a bit of a bike snob in some ways but when it comes to a hack I want it to be as horrible as possible. The less I care about it the better.

I am a little surprised that no-one has mentioned the bi-plane forked Stumpy yet - surely the prize amongst that collection - maybe not in terms of value (the RS-1 is probably the rarest bike there), but it's a true classic and deserves a loving restoration by someone.

Stumpjumper got my attention first too! Bullmooose bars, Biplane forks, that is an example of an early incarnation of the first 'production' MTB, I'd love that

I would say the Raleigh as is would make a great 'hack' by hack I mean put it together mostly as is, and use it use it use it!

That Giant is just not on!

The Fisher is really nice too... And the Estay...

The Full suss one is a bit much for me but will have fans for sure!

And the burgundy lugged one with no decals? Love that too

Haha! I sneaked my bikes and projects in one by one, that haul, all in one go, is a daring stroke 8)
