Which model?

Hello dear readers. Here is the first of many questions i have as a newbie to this hobby of ours. I have aquired a Raleigh 14 speed racing bike and want to know what model it is. The frame number is WG7000115 and its faded yellow. It is fitted out as follows. From the frame number i think its a Worksop frame made in 77 or 87.

Brakes: Shimano
Brake Levers: Shimano SLR

Rear Derailleur:Shimano

Hi Stan

Looks like you have an '87 Raleigh. Sorry no help with the model. It would also have been built in Nottingham. Although it has the "W" prefix, Worksop stopped in the early 80's but the "W" carried on with the Nottingham frames.

'87 also ties in with the Shimano 105 group.

Yep definitely a Raleigh triathlon I had one of these with the biopace 105 chain set paid £10 from eBay 12 years ago I had it a year and I got hit by a car and it bent the rear chain stays,lovely bike.

Thanks for the info guys, not bad value, someone gave it to me. There is a little rust on the frame which i have rubbed oil into until i decide what to do with it. Many thanks. stan.

Big Stan, out of interest, which oil?

I have rust spots on an old Ian May I picked up a while ago and would like to stop any spreadage whilst I work out if it's due a respray or I can get away with the battered effect!

Nice to see a decent Raleigh frame, BTW.

I used 3 in 1 oil, rubbed in very hard to move the surface rust then a light coating of silicone oil rubbed in to make sure it gets deep. The tricky bit is hiding the wifes duster so she wont find out i used it with oil. Stan.
