Merlin XLM

beautifully made, supremely light (3.1lb frame in my size), goes like a stabbed rat, handles great.

It really eggs you on "faster puny human, faster!"

Don't know if this thread's doing much to answer the impossible question, but it's certainly reminding me how many great bikes I've craved over the years 8)

Although I still vote for mine!

I like my Sovereign. A bit jarring on the rocky trails around here with the Gatorblade, but the handling is razor sharp.

Gotta have a budget to make this thread focussed and useful I reckon - there'll still be no right answer of course, but without that its just pretty random, though everyone is answering the question.

Cor blimey this is an interesting one...

For me I'd have to agree with
Gotta have a budget to make this thread focussed and useful I reckon

I would suggest
£500 and under
£500-1000
£1000-2000
Over £2000

Also what is the mid nineties? 95? or anywhere from 92 to 98?

And as someone else said what material?

My humble opinion is a s follows:

Steel: C16-R / P7 (I had a XT C16-R)
Or Kona Explosif / Kilauea

Aluminium Could go Pace or Cannondale or GT

Carbon Probably a Scott???

Ti Orange Vit T2 or Merlin Ti or Dyna tech Quantum

This Is sooooooo subjective :?

Just thought of a better answer
either

what you were riding in the mid 90's

or

what you wanted to ride in the mid 90's
