Which frame for XC?

I know they're not a bike manufacturer as such, but Merlin have been spec'ing frames for years and know what makes a good frame. They undoubtedly have quality control standards with their Taiwanese suppliers, so I don't see much difference to the big names getting their frames made in Taiwan, other than the number of frames being made.

I'm sure Merlin don't just order a pile of frames and take pot luck when they are shipped over.

Glad to see that people agree about the quality & vfm.

Sorry, I seem to have annoyed people with my comments. That wasnt my intention. I was just saying that they are built in Taiwan as you stated they are British made.

If I had £200 to spend on a modern frame I would be seriously tempted to get one of their new ones.

As for their old (retro) ones, they are up their with the really well built Handsome Dog frames for value for money.

Do agree that Trek have little love for some reason, probably their image, and they can be found really cheap for a quality frame too.

Easton!

The only Aluminum hardtails I actually enjoy riding are the Easton tubed ones. The ride is smooth like steel, but every bit of pedal power goes right to the ground.

My favorites are the Kona Kula and the DBR Team Issue.........although I know Diamondbacks in the US are often completely different than those in the UK

I don't know what Easton did to this things, but they're magical.
