Strange question, but after seeing the website entirely devoted to rear mechs (www.disraeligears.co.uk), it got me to thinking - which bit of a bike pleases you the most aesthetically or mechanically? You know, when you're browsing through Ebay, not after anything in particular, what are the bits you tend to end up looking at and buying even without a bike to stick them on?

For me in order of preference:

Most 'exciting'
1. frame
2. Rear mech
3. SPD pedals

Least exciting  :

1. bottom bracket
2. Front mech
3. Front wheel

The curve of a fork, the gentle taper of a slender crank. I can twiddle hub axles till the cows come home.

But what really does it for me is Greaseguard: pumping the clean grease in and watching the dirty grease ooze out. Give me a grease gun and I'm in heaven.

that's more like it! I get a similar satisfaction with SPDs: clean grease in one end, dirty out the other...

Verlaine, hein? :D

Well, yes.

But Fauré too (Gérard Souzay's wonderful Decca recording if you can get it).
