I must me missing something. How do you get the stem out of the steerer? :shock:

the stem is part of the fork (not very handy). the steerer tube is bolted in (see the bolt at the bottom?) so you'd have to loosen the stem clamp and said bolt at the bottom and press the steerer tube out. then you can take of the fork and stem. that was just a prototype attempt to build a Ti fork, it did not go into production. Merlin found the normal Ti forks too flexy (right so) and attempted to beef them up without making it heavier than a steel fork. they concluded in the end that a Ti fork would be heavier and much more expensive than a steel fork would it have the same stiffness.

Merlin followed very much the learning by doing approach back then and thus many very cool but not really useful one-offs were created.

where is this merlin distributor of yours, he seems to have nice stock, two elevators!!!

very unlikely that you can get hold of such a fork but e.g. Blacksheep certainly can build you one. not the same but an example of what they can do

With mods permition I would like to change the name of this thread to "My titanium fetish thread".

It although being a stunner If I had the means to commision a custom I would draw out some special spec and take it to merlin, still the blacksheep is very seductive.
