When good builds go bad....

I think that looks ok actually andy. It does need a little fine tuning though.

I'll throw my (ashamed) hat in with my rc-200

main.php

I had two bikes lined up to build all year. This and the mountain goat. The Pace in my mind ruled. The Goat didn't and I tried to sell it numerous times. In the end I built both. The Goat looks bang on (IMHO) and rides a treat. The PAce as built looks a nail and is too small to boot. Funny how things work out....

Looks fine to me. black tyres yes. Your do you ever use it? I bet you could eat off the floor its so clean and new looking 8) You must be please that you fitted it your self. You could have fitted jez kitchen. Did he buy one in the end? I remember him shocked at the price.
Sorry gone off the subject a bit :)

John: Your RC200 just needs red maguras not the yellow ones. Personally have Terence Conran thing going on - stone should be stone coloured, metal metal coloured, saddles black ti flites. So I guess your brash saddle needs to go too. Remember "less is more, darling"; or to misquote Coco Chanel "there is no such thing as an ugly bike just a lazy owner"

Don't you just hate it.

Get an idea in your head, think its going to look the nuts, and actually, when you start, you realise its just a car crash. Gash. Yuk. What was I doing??

Anyway, enclosed is a good demo of how the whole becomes a whole lot less than the sum of parts.....

OK, be honest, there must be some more gopping builds about, do show! Make me feel better please!!

But you've spotted you don't like it and know how you'd like to put it right - isn't it far worse when there's a shocking build (not that this is one I hasten to add) and the owner doesn't even realise it and thinks it's classy?

This is the exact reason why I struggle to deviate from black or silver parts.

On a separate point, is there something to be worried about with Thomson? Newish granted but great quality, totally functional, non flash and a classic design to boot - not retro but certainly retro flava

Andy - that build looks okay to me. I think some subtle changes would make a big difference to 'clean' it up:

silver chainrings
some lighter coloured skinwall tyres

and a chain will make a big difference too!

Don't put blackwalls on it - they'll make it look heavy!

Good point ed! Whod you have in mind?

Nothing wrong with Thomson pins, run a few of them on new school bikes. Just a bit modern really. The reason I bought one to fit the Fat was because they work so well. A cracked syncros and Mobys you just cant do up tight enough are fine for a quick spin, but proper rides need proper parts :)

Mmmm, gold is a good idea.

Go for Red, Gold and either White or Cream...like a 1972 Lotus Elan big valve.

..but less is more with the gold or it will look like Mr T's bike...

...I like your taste in cars

Thanks Doug!

I love the ride, and keep swapping bits, but not yet completely happy...
This was the bike that got me into retro proper :) So its your fault I am here really

All that needs are the forks changing to Judy SLs, the yellow would pick out the decals and add to the cartoon colours, personally I like it, although I would change the rings to more delicate looking ones in silver - don't think rs1s work with big chunky rings.
