Morning all,

I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts on this odd little slice of life.

I recently bought a broken component on eBay thinking it'd come in useful for spare parts (normal behaviour for a retrobiker? :D ).

A few days later a parcel arrived containing, not the item I had purchased, but a much more modern and expensive version of the component that looks to be in practically unused condition, the seller still has this listed for sale on eBay as part of a set.

I contacted the seller pointing out the mistake and suggesting that if they send me the correct part including a returns label I'd stick it in the post and all would be well.

The correct part arrived yesterday and within the box was a piece of paper with the sellers name and address written on it with 'return label' scribbled below, no hint of any stamps or prepaid postage.

It would appear that unless I contact the seller again via eBay to query it, they are expecting me to bear the postage costs of the return.

The part in question is for sale as half of a pair for almost £200, which I would assume is worth going to some effort to retrieve.

So, pay the £4 to post it back and put it down to experience or wait to see how long it takes before they get in touch? .

you have done whats reasonable by letting them know, more than many would have I suspect.
If they don't want to stump up for the stamp to fix their mistake then just hold on to it, they'll get the idea soon enough.

Re:

I’d just contact them and ask about the postage, inc level of insurance/tracking they require.

Obviously they need to cover the cost of it.

Probably just an oversight on their part, esp if selling a fair bit online.

:D ........there is a contrary part of me that would like to wait and see how long it is before i hear from them, but the likelihood is that i'll just send them a message along the lines of what xxnick1975 says, seems crazy to leave it to the purchaser to sort tho? .
