What's with all the rusty / cracked frames lately ????

I know that when I got the wicked back last year I had a look in the BB shell and the seat tube has been drilled. Did not remember doing that and does not look like its been apart since I sold it in 95! :? :?

Condition internally is superb, even argos rang to say what good nick it were in.

They were never drilled as standard were they?

Its true when i bought my Yo i had to have Igleheart repair the seat tube. Since then i have frame savored every tube you can on a yo and put a drain hole in the bb and the bottom of the seat tube.

P.S. There can only be one!!!

Maybe these bikes are getting old! :D
D'you think I may be asking a bit much then ?   I do appreciate we're working with some old gear but seems there's some projects with hidden holes/cracks going on of late. The Fisher I'm working on now has a mint steel framed tubeset from 88' whereas the newer Whitespider was fooked and was a better quality Columbus frame... Suppose it's all down to looking after them in the first place ?

That would be down to tube technology moving on, back in '88 thin wall was probably 2mm thick  on the white spider it's 0.9mm

I've got no problems with the Lloyd frame I have... but I have broken three forks on it in the last year

1. Snapped steerer tube on Pace RC35's - I also felt these were too flexy and soft
2. Blown seals and internals on 2000 Bomber Z2 Bams - I've got the parts to fix them, just need time to do it
3. Twisted both dropouts on the secondhand RC31's on my second ride with them - Pace are re-bonding these so they will ride again :D

Fatigue and corrosion are always going to be a problem with old kit. I've tried to keep to reliable components for my build but I suspect my riding style is a factor here. I broke all the bikes I had 15 years ago and I still ride in the same way  I try to ride a little more gently when I'm on the Retro steed but I probably get carried away with all the fun I'm having

I also think it depends where a bike has spent its life - 15 years in damp ol blighty is going to be a lot harsher on a steel frame than 15 years in california.
