Hi all,

Just wondering what experieneces with what single speed convertors on regular MTB's people have had, what do people find the best, and what was the worst?

My old DMR has died, spring arm snapped, and the jockey wheel wore out. Sometime in the future, for a future project, I would like to get better easier to run replacement with easy to replace regular type spares. (The jockey wheel on the DMR is different than that of a standard shimano mech)

What about freewheels and chain size, anyone ran regular chains such as 8spd or 9spd with BMX freewheels (or White Industries Eno) without problems?

Cheers,
Steve

I'm using an Eno but with a BMX chain...or WI chain. Can't remember what we used exactly, but it's not the regular 8/9 speed chain. I really like the setup. It's clean and simple as hell. Less clutter and very easy to clean after a muddy ride.

DMR tensioners have a reputation of being comically hopeless. I've seen the results ( plural! ) with my own eyes. I've had a singulator ( the same one ) from Surly on 5 different bikes with no problems.
I've also made a couple of tensioners using sh@gged mechs and an angle grinder.

I like the NC-17 tensioner, the roholf one and the pauls melvin, all a bit pricey though. I'm running a gusset half link chain which is 3/32 on 1/8 freewheel and chainring, I have heard this gives a slight advantage with chainline misalignment.
