what's my orange?

ta for the piccies to compare.
my early prestige has a similar hole at the rear drop out, but the clockwork i've got has rack bolt holes on the sides of the wishbone, this red thing hasn't.

and yes Fluffy 'that bit'

i found this old thread which doesn't actually help matters.
http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... tushingham
it mentions the under bb routing.
**there's some pictures of a Formula here
http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... m&start=15
that had a hole in the drop out junction (but also rack mounts, hmmmm)

(and this one from waaaay back with ome history in it http://www.bikemagic.com/forum/forummes ... 51&SP=&V=6 )

i'm sure as well that someone told me that Orange actually repainted some Muddy Foxes as race bikes in the early days.

The M in the serial number would definitely point that way.

the guy i got it off said the usual 'it cost £3000 back in the day', but he got it off a mate unpainted.
it came with early RC35's too and xc pro/xtr which would be odd to stick on a muddy fox.

hmmmm, maybe i should just ask Orange.

comparing it to those pics of the muddy foxes i would say it's a muddy fox, unlikely to be an orange to many things missing or in the wrong place.

something special? don't know i only really know about oranges lol :P

looks nowt like the P7 you sold me so it rules that out.

It would be a bloody good find if it turns out to be a formula though!

If it's a Muddy Fox it's likely to have a paw print logo stamped into the metal of the seatpost clamp lug. Look where the seat tube exits the lug for the paw print.... that's unless its been filled..

I can post a pic if that helps.

Don't see why it confuses things. Nothing here spells out Orange from the small pics you've provided and importantly the serial number.

bigger pictures....

so it's a muddy fox then?

I looked at that and though Fox, but I have just been studying the 1990 catalogue I have here and the 1990 bikes all have the paw print (where they have a seattube collar) plus they don't have ovalised seatstays and it's the same with the '89 range. It's not a 1991 as the frame design changes with a sloping top tube that joins the seat tube well below where the chainstays do (see my sorcerer).
So I don't think it's a Fox.

Carl.
