I won the claim with Paypal but because the seller didnt respond and has no money in their account I am £37 down.

Ho hum, live and learn

Was it someone off here?

I paid by cheque, only cuz i really wanted the forks and the chap said he hasn't updated his paypal yet so had to be with a cheque. So i'm not covered by any insurance, and he lives sooooo far away from me so i can't even go and get them!
I thought we had a nice little community going here, bought many things with no hastle, as you say pickle, live and learn :(

damn, sorry to hear it. That is the one loophole some people open paypal accounts with a checking account that they opened just for the paypal, and then they remove the funds immediately...leaving no cash for paypal to reimburse a wronged buyer. It's a loophole, paypal should close immediately. The good news is that the scammer will have a difficult time scamming with that same account. Bad news, he can probably open up another.

Another tip, always check the seller's paypal info, they should be verefied with a good number of completed transactions and a number of years using that account; they should also be verefied/certified etc...
If those things aren't available or too low, then you're always going to be taking a chance.

Just for info the PO say that 1st class mail can take upto 10 days to be delivered! They usually won't allow you to start a claim for at least 5 or 6 days after that. That's from personal experience.

Well, my pm hasn't been picked up, and my brother (who's also on this forum) has said he pm'd him on the 24th september about some other stuff he was selling and that's not been read yet. So he's either gone on a very long holiday, some serious has happened or he's ripped me off. I've noticed that the forks have been removed altogether from his for sale thread.... :(
