bought a bike off a fellow retrobiker at the weekend got it tuesday gone to put it together and found out the pedal thread was stripped on the non drive side barring the last 4/5 turns. it was supplied without pedals.

i've asked if he would see his way to help peplacing the offending chainset as i've found 1 on fleabay for 30 notes i know he has read the pm but i've not had a reply :(

Well, for a start, I'd buy the replacement cranks (if you haven't already) and see if the seller gets back to you.

Is the thread completely stripped (so that it's impossible to mount a pedal) or just a bit mangled from cross-threading or something? It is possible that the guy who sold it to you wasn't even aware of whatever damage there is.

Depending on what you paid for the whole bike and the overall condition the rest of it is in, I'd probably just discount it as being something that sometimes happens when you buy old bikes and components.
I sold one of my friends a pair of Turbine cranks and didn't even know that one had been helicoiled until he later pointed it out to me  .

this doesn't surprise me :( go to the feed back section and leave a negative post if you get no joy soon.
As i bet he knew the thread was like that when sold. It just slipped his mind not to tell you. :x
Other wise don't give up untill you get a reply

Kinda depends how it was sold. If he said the bike was good and ready to ride then persue it. If it was sold as needing work then maybe take it on the chin.

It is a bit rude to just ignore your pm though. Even if he told you to sod off, at least you'd know that's where you stand.

i paid £240 pic showed a comple bike all he said was the saddle was naff

the thread in the crank is about 2 thirds stripped and wont hold a pedal :(

bought the cranks off fleabay last night, sent 2 p.m's none nasty just asjing if he would see his way to helping with the cost but nothing

cant force the guy i could understand if he was a newbie but he has over 300 posts and a member for 3 years
