What to do with an old Goat

I could do with a bit of advice.

I’ve got an old Mountain Goat Whiskeytown S frame in a kind of burnt orange and black tiger stripe finish. I think it’s a 15 or 16” frame (small).

Problem is that the seat tube has rotted quite badly and it’s not really safe to ride any more. Is it worth saving? Could someone weld another seat tube in? Is it only fit for the rag&bone?

I haven’t really got any use for it (my Mum has been using it to get to her allotment!) so it’s only worth doing if someone would want it afterwards.

It’s a bit of a dogs breakfast of parts at the moment. The stem is Mountain Goat as are the rigid steel forks, both painted in ‘team’ green and orange. I think the fork is for the non-suspension version and makes the steering really quick! It’s got flat Syncros bars, Gripshift, LX canti brakes with Scott Superbrake pads. The rest is various bits of assorted junk that I had in the garage.

Any thoughts?

Rich.

A frame builder can easily replace the tube for you - whether it's worth the cost only you can decide.

I would guess you'd be looking in the region of £150ish plus £100ish for a respray.

If it was mine, I would get it fixed, new tube and resapray, build it up and keep.

Financially to resell, it struggles to make sense really to fit new tubes/respray unless you can get a good job done somewhere cheap.

Deffo worth doing though. And get the stem painted to match natch. :)
