what light tyre advice

Dirt Disciple
Hi.
Need a pair of tyres for my rigid Kona build.Mainly dry hardpack, with the most demanding terrain being sand + gravel which I find extremely slippery.
1.95 for the rear and 2.1 or maybe 2.0 for the front.
I confess thet I'm a weight weenie,so would want to look at the lightest.
Currently running IRC Mythos 2 (1.95) but will be letting them go soon,so I need replacements.

My initial thoughts were a Maxxis flyweight 330 or 310 for the rear, and
a Speedking front, but I've read that the Speedking is not very grippy.
The flyweight seems quite promising, but there does not seem to be much depth to the knobs-will this slip as I ride off saddle up those sandy climbs?

Any thoughts?

Cheers.

I had the flyweight 330's on my kona for a few months and they were terrible. No grip and in about 2 months i had 10 puntures. I now use conti speed kings 2.3 on the front and 2.1 on the back and i've had no problems what so ever. A little heavier but the difference in grip is amazing.

I use the larssen TT in the 2.35 4X version, they do well for me too.

But what about some retro options like Ritchey Zmaxes WCS?

Enjoy !

The 1.9 are pretty narrow, but grip well on dry roots as long as not at 55psi. About 37 is OK.
Not tried them in the wet though, fear it would be  ➡️

I've have some 2.0 inch larssen TT's and they are great for dry dusty trails but clog up really quickly and turn to slicks as soon as it gets muddy. which can prove eventful.
