What length Octalink BB Axle With m951 Cranks

Morning everyone,

Looking through the Sheldon Brown chart on the subject I still can't be sure which octalink BB I need for my project. This is largely due to not being able to find a correct V1 BB for m951 cranks and not being sure which axle length to use.

With that in mind can anyone recommend which BB to use on a Pace RC200 F4 68mm shell 27 speed with m951 XTR Cranks?

Cheers Chicken,

I'm sure I saw one at 116mm and although I've seen the 112.5mm ones advertised no one has any stock. Also I think I confused myself even further by trying to understand what I could substitute an m951 BB with.

Do you have any idea where I can find a 112.5 or what I could substitute it with?

I've just done another search through all the usual suspects but still no good. Only 105 and Duraace items compatible with V1 Octalink and none at 112.5. Just 109 and 118.

116 would work but is not the ideal one.

The road ones 109 may work, others have used them. I actually have both 112 xtr and 109 ultegra just to see how they differ. But not got around to it.

There is no real alternative to them. Only one or two had a license to make them but never seen any and cannot remember who.
No other Shimano fits.

I needed 116mm on my Alibi (73mm shell) to give enough Q-factor to clear the chainstays, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a similar story with a Pace...

Not on the bike now so I can't measure for you at the moment, sorry. Couple of weeks and they should be refitted to something else if you're still looking.

I'd be interested to know whatever both of you find.

This isn't the sort of project I want to have to "make do" with. I think the best thing I can do is wait until a genuine 112.5 item comes up for sale. That could be some time though so if either of you find your experiments and measurements cut it then I can use that information to fall back on.

Thanks for your support.

I'm sure Stumpjumper1990 has a 112.5 for sale on here ATM for a very fair price. I had the same issue as you not so long ago - ended up using a BB6500 109.5 and it worked...just! If you're determined to wait for the proper bb, you might be waiting a while. They don't come up often at all.
