What is this winged beast?

Never seen such a thing. Is it a big bumblebee? A small bird?

Had a wasps nest in the house last year so confident it's not a normal wasp. At least 2 or 3 times as big.

I want a view like that out side our window I could print a large copy and stick over the window. But beloved wife may not like that idea
