Hello all. Is this a Zaskar or Avalanche and what year could this be? I've been offered this quiet cheap, owner doesn't know what it is

Probably an Avalanche from the 95-98-ish period. 7000 series tubing, just not as nice to ride as a Zaskar.

There are some 6061 Avalanches as well though but this is not a Zaskar

Zaskars from this era had a flat end cap on the top tube and the build date is part of the serial number along with '6061' stamped on the dropouts

and they were American made whereas this would have been Taiwan

yours has nice kit on it though and I would try and get a pic of the back end to see if that top tube has a flat cap

or a pic of the serial number

or inside of the rear drop outs

Thanks Fromage much appreciated for the info, Is the ride difference quiet noticeable? I guess it's probably heavier as well?

Weight doesnt really matter, its the ride. The 7000 series frame just felt more noodly, even a bit dead with some frames I've had, than the Zaskars - but you may prefer it!

Re:

If it's cheap, it has a decent retro spec. If you dont like the ride, swap all the parts over on to a zaskar frame if that's what you are after. It's what I'd do if the price was right, as the bike has some parts a zaskar build would have.

Re:

Thanks guys for the info. It's up for £300, is that a good price for a near minty non Zaskar with XTR, Crossmax and Syncros finishing gear?
