What do folks use to keep a bike in place on a car rack?

I mean, beyond cheap bungee cords, I was wondering if there is a product out there that works better. Got meself one of these, I don't have a LR but the arms do screw on very securely to my swing-out spare wheel carrier:

Ebay item is 150497703030 btw.

I've got some foam pipe lagging to cover the arms but I was wondering what recommendations or existing straps that folks have found best to secure the bike from moving around on such arrangements.

you'll probably be best off with some ratchet strops of the small variety to hold it down firmly and stay put mate halfrauds or somewhere similar will have them :D

All done:

Pipe lagging: £3.99 for 14 metres (a job lot) off ebay
Kwik Twists: 99p a pack from JTF
Add a U-Lock.

Last pic angle is misleading, the front only sticks out about 1" on the drivers side.

Carrier arms were £21 new off ebay. Bargain.

Aren't you potentially obscuring your number plate, there - and could face possible wrist slapping?

Webbing straps where they go through a buckle of sorts.Really dont want things undoing themselves when youre horsing it down a bumpy lane

I would be a wee bit concerned about those twisty things. I use them for ad hoc guitar anti slip devices from the handles on my amps, etc. and the wires are fairly short lived once they have been waggled a bit. I would imagine a bike bouncing around would accelerate this issue.

I have to work this one out myself as I am intending to do it, I am reckoning on fitting up some ratcheting belts at the least.

:)
