what disc hubs do you recommend?

in which case, best value for money, performance, weight, against cost? i'd go for hope. shimano work fine, but when cup & cone bearings are damaged or worn the bearings will never be as sweet again.
after many years of being a chris king hub proponent i wont be buying anymore as hope have closed the gap. if you dont care about weight, but want to last for ever then phil wood.

here's a vote for DT.

240s if you want light, silky and tough.

340 if you want totally and completely bombproof.

Industry Nine just gorgeous!

Hope for me, everytime (when I can afford it...)

Shimano are great, but after a few years when the cones need sorting, and the frame/fork has worn flats onto the threads on the axle, then how do you strip them down...... (because the nuts/cones won't come off)
Seems shimano would prefer you just buy another pair, now that doesn't work for me, not because I'm a tight git, but just because its a waste of resources.

I reckon in 50 years time, when we are running out of resources, they'll be digging this stuff out of landfill to repair......

Has anyone used the Hope Pro 2 rear hub with the aluminium cassette body? Any problems with cassettes eating into it under load?

not if you use the 1 piece cassette carrier, ie upper end shimano, sram etc. lower end deore etc use seperate cogs which can eat in the cassette body as you mention.

I have a lovely set of silver Hope XCs ready to build onto 717s. Nothing at all wrong with the XT/317s I have, but I WANT/NEED those Hopes on my bike!
