What did you break today?

I'll start this off with a double whammy.

Spotted these holes in my rear rim while at work, so had to ride home very gingerly using front brake only.
Big hole:

Small hole:

Then on the way home there was a big bang as I hopped up a kerb and I discovered that I'd cracked the seat clamp, had to ride standing up after that.

The upside is I do want to learn to build wheels so it's a perfect excuse to look for some sunsets to replace the 521s. And the post is USE, so replacement clamps are available.

Re:

Last week I rode along a road with old iron catseyes, the eyes are missing from most of them on one stretch of the road, leaving the iron bits. I ride along and try and put the tyre in the middle of the eye. If you hit the iron sides it doesn't do the tyres/rims a lot of good.
I hit the side of a a catseye and there was a bang. I could feel the wheel was running out
as it was hitting the brakes, I had snapped 5 spokes!

Two weeks ago in London....

Riding along and BANG! Tyre had torn of the bead and the tube had exploded I had to be at Trafalgar square in 40 minutes for the start of the ride I was on. A quick search on Google maps and Cycle Surgery was just round the corner, I go in and there's no mechanics working so I polite word and I'm allowed the use of their workshop and tools. No tyres they had would fit the bike so it had to be a adhesive tyre boot and a tube.

Was completely fine until a couple of hundred meters before the lunch stop, and the tyre boot has failed and the tube is rubbing against the chainstay so I had to let out all the air and carry the bike. I thought I would have to leave my friends and just push back to the car park but the combination of a plastic bottle and then lashing the torn tyre to the rim with webbing straps seemed to work, went as smooth as clockwork and lasted me the rest of the day :D .

Broke a 20 year old Zefal telescopic pump the other day when I needed it the most. Obviously
the nice pressure gauge feature wasn't much use when the pump was in two entirely separate bits. Couldn't
be repaired at the roadside with chewing gum or a fag lighter either so was mildly upset, and I'm afraid
I may of cursed Zefal for everything it is and stands for.

Re:

A couple of weeks ago as I was pulling away there was an ominous 'clunk'
and the next thing I knew I was on the deck, luckily unharmed. The stem clamp had broken. The stem was a Spectre from 95' with a single clamp bolt accessed through the side of the stem. What really worries me is that I've got an identical stem on another '95 bike which is all original. :!:

Re:

I broke wind just now

Re:

Actually I have something a little more relevant...unfortunately. I was just swapping the XT thumbies on my Brodie for a pair of Suntour XCD ones this afternoon - the last piece of the puzzle to complete the full XCD groupset. As I was tightening the LH shifter clamp I felt that little 'clunk' as the bolt threaded the clamp and started to spin

I broke two spokes riding home tonight. Time for a new set I think.

Ouch.

Ironic that it happened with the Suntour set. The XT thumbies are famous for that.
