Listed on guntree with shimano 600 and that its Reynolds 531
It looks like a Competition but it's blue!
It seems To have a forged dropout and the blades haven't got the light bracket that lower end ones have
Any ideas just by looking at it?

Clubman possibly as has been said, to be honest by this time most Carlton were merging into one pretty samey blob of bikes... Giro, Grand Prix, Cyclone etc etc... Thanks Raleigh.

Re:

Didn't clubman have Nevrex stylised lugs?
Looking at catalogue 1977.
Even so were these decent frames?

Still a decent frame, yes.

Whether competition or clubman is this the same frame as the equivalent Raleigh model as sold in the States?

Complete bike worth £175 do you reckon ?

The frame in the pic has no braze-ons that I can see. Carlton may have turned into grey porridge as Mike says but they could generally turn out a frame with at least the gear cable stop brazed on the chain stay.........

Falcon on the other hand brazed on absolutely nothing unless they had to.

I'm not convinced it's a Carlton underneath the decals. More pics or a frame number might nail it.

Re:

I enquired and the seller kindly sent me some pictures.
He said the serial number is WG... with some digits hard to make out - he took a picture of the underside.
He said £180 shipped to London for the complete bike.
It looks quite in need of TLC and has quite a bit of rust, the components are also iffy in condition, and I'm not sure the £180 is worth it -to be honest I'd rather just the Frame and Forks as I think it'd look nice as that blue is very catching.

Anyway, I at first thought it was a Competition, but it seems to be a Clubman as said before here by those with better knowledge than I.
It has that braze on gear cable thing on the stay.

here's two pages from 1977 Catalogue, followed by pictures of the bike.

If it was a Competition I may have been more tempted, as it is I will pass.

It does have a braze on stop and a Worksop number, just need the third digit for the year.

Teardrop lug cutout came in the late 70's on Raleigh / Carlton frames. Competition, Pro am, GS and the like.
