What bikes have you walked away from and regretted it

We must of all done it... even when the price was good for a complete original as it was born.
I’m regretting not bringing it home now, and just hope it’s still there next week.

So what was it your thinking..

86 muddyfox courier. Everything was still there from the ibexll tyres down to the original pedals. At £30 I walked away and left it.
All afternoon I’ve been looking at them on here seeing how members have restored them back to former glory and made them look amazing again.

That must of been a bit of a wounder for you, and I suppose someone else has it now? I think the fact that it’s mothers day and me arriving home and trying to explain why I’ve bought another bike was the deal breaker for me

That Dave Hemming stunt bike is legendary. Its now in the Dutch Mountainbike Museum. Wish id had the chance to buy it back then too. I have an exact replica though and it lives upto the hype to ride but I cant bear to get it dirty since its been repainted.


Nothing worse than letting a dream bike slip through your fingers. Only one got away a NOS albino 10th Anniversary. Shame i had builders f up a job that month so i had to pass on it but again, just as well, it was too pretty to ride. The new owner did an amazing build too.

3 years ago I coulve bought an American Raleigh Titanium(identical to a Torus) Tomac replica for 450euro.It had a Disc Drive,Tioga Revolvers,Tioga fork and Graftons.Still hurts .

Black & pink F W Evans before I was fully versed in retro, full deerhead (I didn't know what it was), really tidy just needed tyres & tubes £10 from the tip. I'd been told not to bring anymore bikes home. It was after this I decided to make a little space in the workshop.

Sorry guys, sounds like some painfull memories are unfolding. Splitting the difference here, one I very very nearly passed on is the ridgeback 605 I have. Guess some of you lot convinced me at the time what I was letting go...

605 SIS fillet brazed 89 Ridgeback is a keeper for sure. Just remembered i had an opportunity to buy a mint first gen 81 Stumpy back in ~ 91. Customer wanted a new bike and we did not do trade ins. He only wanted £50 and would have taken less im sure. Took it for a spin around the block and the ride sucked so bad i said no :facepalm: I was thinking low value pub bike :facepalm:

Not so much walked away, but gave away my ‘91 Fire Mountain (for all the right reasons at the time), before finding Retrobike.

Still would like it back, but confident that that option has long since passed.

Picked up an identical (missing the MBUK Mint Sauce & X-Lite ski bar ends), it’s the same, but it’s not “my” bike if that makes sense.

I know it’s not particularly special, unique or even rare, but someone has to look after the “ordinary”, as well as the more interesting/exotic specimens.
