What am I to do?

Flinkin' forks have worn out, anodising on the sliders is gone (manitou disease). No problem! Buy a new fork... More than 80mm with rim brake bosses

OK the dilema, do I buy a new complete (which I've never done and hate the idea of all the compromised parts) or do I throw a fortune at my '99 S-works M4? (new wheels, new brakes, new fork, new headset, cranks are getting past it too) If it was just matter of buying a fork it'd be easy. Brakes are a problem... no disc mounts on my frame.

It's driving me mad it'll cost £1000+ to sort the old machine out. For that money I could get one of those all singing all dancing German machines Radon, Cube but they're always boring anodised black :(

Grrrr just as I replace every last bolt with a titanium or alloy one the damn thing becomes defunked on me...

Definitely throw the money at the old bike - for a grand you can get a Fox F80, Easton carbon bars and post, XT rear Derailleur, brakes and shifters and a set of half-decent Mavics - no 1000 quid complete is going to come close to the ride you get from your M4.

You can get brand new SIDs with 80mm travel and V mounts

Keep the old bike, you know you want to

Sorry, I just don't quite get what's wrong with your current wheels, brakes, cranks etc... :?

Isn't it just that you have money burning a hole in your pocket?

Personally I'd by something new or near new for everyday riding, and then spend my time picking up cheap but good quality parts for the older bike.

Foek wise you should be able to pick up a 2000 or 2001 Marzocchi Z2 in red to match the frame very cheaply which will have lots of life in it still.

Red bombers always look cool

Take this 'work in progress'

Thanks for the feed back...

I know I can get 80m travell forks I'd like a bit more though, the blacks on there at the mo' are 100/120mm and do me fine. About the rest of the bits, I know they're alright (need new rear hub at some point) but if I'm forced to convert to discs they're obviously useless. I wanna keep it, it's the fork issue that's the problem I want a 100mm fork with rim brake bosses that don't weigh any more than the Blacks I'm running now (that's marzocchi discounted then  )

i would try and fix your old bike up, a new £1000 bike won't be anywhere near as good. If your rim brakes are fine, don't upgrade them, however in the latest issue of MBUK there is a little review in the gear section about a a disc adaptor for your frame. Basically it screws into the v brake boss and clamps onto the frame or the dropout or something and voila, disc tabs. It's supposedly VERY good, though i think it was around the £90 mark. Food for thought.

I would say try and find some more blacks if you can, they come up on ebay occasionally. Also what's the problem with the anodising coming off the stanchions? i thought it was only aesthetic?

This is stupid...
OK, found a pair of new unused Blacks on ebay. Great :D . The bosses were absent, not a problem me thinks, I'll use the ones out of the old fork :) The fork is the year after the ones I have 2004 model slightly different lowers, no more grease ports... AND, the boss threads are different :( The thread starts deeper in the casting than my other pair, old bosses reach the new threads OK but some monkey had tried this before and one boss has had some of the thread stripped :x

So now I'm mad.. I need a set of M8 bosses with 15 - 18mm of thread, can I find any......

Any help gratefully received....Please
