Wet or Dry?

Till recently i used the cheapest oil going. But it picked all the rubbish up. Plus a nightmare to clean.
So went the GT85 route. Doesn't pick up so much rubbish and is so much better to clean.

Sadly GT-85 as great as it is is only really a penetrating and water displacement lube/fluid.
It's great at what it does but it isn't thick enough or durable enough for chains -the thin film it leaves is easily broken down/rubbed off after a few miles.

I use finish line or pedros (wet in the winter and a "dry" in the 3 days of summer :( )

Just bought a road bike that had had a new cassette and chain recently fitted, but the owner had clearly used some cheap lubricant resulting in a gloopy mess on both. The chain had picked up loads of dust debris etc...couldn't be bothered to clean it up...bin job.
I use white lightning...give your chain (even a new one) a thorough clean and dry and apply. Re-apply as needed...great stuff as it dries...and according to the bottle lubes and cleans in use. Works for me

By White Lightening I trust you dont mean the £3 a gallon tramp cider?

I used to run GT85 but it seemed to work itself into the freehub body and dissolve out the grease. A freehub used to last around a year.
Since I changed to Pedros or Finish Line (dry in summer, wet in winter) I have not replaced a freehub body in 7 years.

GT85 is long gone after a few miles! Only really useful for cleaning and polishing...

I use finish line cross country lube (wet). Essential round here in the mud and wet, its the only thing I found that retains some kind of lubricating property after a 3-4hr off road ride. And it doesn't attract much dirt either.

I don't clean it often enough so more often than not my drivetrain is full of crap. But hey, XT/XTR continues to work just fine! When I do get round to it, I use weldtite citrus degreaser.

I use the lighter "purple extreme" on my road bike, only beacuae I bought it to try on the MTB and it was too light.

I use finish line or old motor oil in a syringe . I make sure to only ever put a drop on each roller so it sinks in . Anything on the outside will only attract dirt . I never clean my chains , seems silly taking any dirt on the outside and letting it in to where you don't want it . When a nice kmc only costs me £4 on average it's a lot less hassle to take it off and either bin it or put it on a lesser bike when I feel it's getting worn or I expect it to snap .

Where do you buy your chains :)
